A short hiatus from van life while we regroup back here in the UK getting ready for our next adventure. This episode delves deep into our discoveries as a family travelling Europe in a van to over 30 countries and more than 25,000 miles, in two of our self converted vans, Koti and Safari. We share with you what we have learned so far, our favourite spots and best Euro van life experiences. It has been an extraordinary time to be on the road, a journey of learning and of adventure. We will show you some really old stuff and take you to places with immense beauty as well as heading to some Dark frightening places too. We will drive you along some of the greatest roads in the world and show you where the best of Europe’s wildlife is. We will also tell you where are favourite park up spots are. You can get the Eurolite headlamp stickers in this kit 🤍 2. Winter Tyres. We drive with Rogue Alloy All Terrain Tyres, which are also classified as winter tyres. We start off with a bit of van life in the city as we stay in La Rochelle, from there we find a cracking free park up to wild camp at the beach, before heading over to the island of Ile d'oleron. You may be more familiar with Ile de re, but this lesser visited island is definitely worth a look. Yay! We made it to Italy!! Tuscany (and Italy in general) was where we planned to spend a lot of the Summer. However, due to unforeseen world events, we arrived here in November instead. We drove from snowy Switzerland & so we were very pleasantly surprised to be treated to t-shirt & short weather, particularly so late in the year! Join us as we wild camp next to vineyards, olive groves & visit thermal baths. We also make friends with fellow van lifers Erik & Lisa & end up convoying together for two amazing weeks. All before cutting our trip short due to impeding lockdowns, & making our way back to the UK. I was SHOCKED at this grand total! Is travelling Norway affordable?! Did we really spend that much on fuel?! Also I included INTERNET costs in the grand total but didn't speak about it - we spent £95 (we have been buying data passports with three every few days that give us unlimited internet to upload videos). Expensive I know, normally we would buy a local SIM but in Norway the price per mb was more expensive than just using our UK sims. We love nature and are currently traveling in Norway!! You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works! How did we end up here?! 😁 ⏮ We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring. Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden jobs, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey! Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a YouTube channel. Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do YouTube full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. After 3 months on lockdown on a beautiful Portuguese farm, we finally dust off our tires and hit the road. We are excited to take you along with us as we explore the beautiful area of Arrábida in Portugal, before heading to Spain. We absolutely loved our time in Spain where we've been spoilt with Spaghetti Western-style roads, castles & got to sleep next to monasteries. We visited the historical city of Cuenca, a true hidden gem, where we hiked up one of the most important dinosaur sites in Europe. We finished off our trip in the Pyrenees, parking up next to meadows & rivers and later shooting the night sky. In this weeks adventure, we drive through some amazing (yet soggy) scenes in Austria and Bavaria in Germany. We explored some mountain valleys in Austria, drove past some amazing lakes and went to hike around Neuschwanstein castle, aka, Cinderalla's castle! Our last stop in Germany was a park up in the Black Forest, full of lush greenery and a place for fairytales to be told! Unfortunately, we didn't stay long because although we don't mind a bit of rain, when it's none stop and forecast to continue for weeks - we decided to make this a quick research trip and speed through to get back to sunny France. LEAVING THE UK - it did NOT go to PLAN! (Van Life at 70 - how hard can it be?) Well, all of that was so that we could travel and wild camp our way around France. This weeks episode sees us leaving the UK and getting on the euro tunnel to drive our vans into Europe! Now, we have been living and travelling in our van for 3 years, so we've experienced a lot of van life problems, and it turns out that is exactly the start for Joanie, as her first day of van life presents some vehicle damage, followed by her third night on the road with some slightly rude neighbours whilst stealth camping by a lake. First leg of our European road trip in our VW T5 California campervan is a free camping spot high up in the Dolomites mountain range, Northern Italy. We used the Eurotunnel and drove for 2 days to reach the Italian Alps and slept 1800m above sea level to see one of the best views we've ever woken up to, looked over by the majestic Sassongher mountain. TRAVEL EUROPE FOR MORE THAN 90 DAYS... JUST DO THIS! (90 day rule and Schengen area explained. So since we started travelling in Europe in our campervan, we have been inundated with the same question, how are we getting around the 90 day rule. And it's really quite simple, so in this video I do my best to explain how to stay in Europe for more than 90 days as well as do my best to explain what exactly isthe Schengen area and how the rolling 90 in 180 day rule actually works. Anyone with a standard British passport can do this, the simple truth is it's not actually that complicated once you get your head around the new travel rules since Brexit. We all know that travelling after Brexit was going to be more complicated but with a little bit of planning, and some general understanding, its more than possible to stay out in europe for a year, or more, and you dont need any special visas, passports, citezanship or dual nationality! We know this is not our usual European travel vlog, and is nowhere near as fun, but as the true van life travel vloggers we are, we wanted to share the info we've found out so far on our most recent van life journey, so we hope this helps! WASN’T EXPECTING TO STRUGGLE WITH THIS IN NORWAY! (Female Van Life Europe) Van life in Norway just gets more ridiculous the further north we go! There are literally waterfalls around every corner, we visit the 5th highest waterfall in Norway, take on a tough hike to a glacier, visit a glacial lake and navigate our way around using their inland ferry system. But, as amazing as it all is (and it really is) there's one thing we weren't expecting to struggle to find, especially in Norway of all places!! This country is insane, we've never been anywhere quite like it, for van life it's brilliant, probably the best country for van life we've been to so far. THE VAN BUILD HAS BEGUN! After months of scouring the internet to find our new home, we found this 2015 Fiat Ducato L5H3 in Berlin, Germany. It has 170,000km (100,000mi), a 3L engine, and even AIR CON in the cab, baby! We’re already livin’ fancy! Total cost of van was $13,200 USD. We’ve been here since Covid-19 hit in early spring, and now we’re trying our best to make the most of our foreseeable winter here. Although we don’t exactly “live large”, we DO have a badass workshop that supports some pretty fun projects! Let’s get into it! In our new van we want… - 3D printer in the van (excited to show you how we use it!) - Bed lift for our eBikes - Charging dock for eBikes - 2 showers (1 outside, 1 inside) - Toilet - Full fixed bed - 13kWh battery (Ladi will build it) - 1kW solar (fingers crossed we fit it with 2 roof windows) - Reclining couch - 150L+ of water storage - Big screen monitor - “Magic switch” safe in new location - 2 swivel seats - Oven, freezer, stove, fridge, etc - Millie hiding spots (temperature controlled perhaps?) - Millie “dog door” on the roof window - Millie micro ladder? …..and much, much more! We’re pretty good at budgeting & online sourcing, so hoping we don't tip too far over $20,000 USD.
