MixBerlin Profiling Session - chasing british tone! We visited Guitarist, Songwriter, and Producer Hannes Kelch and his Partner, Mix- and Mastering Engineer Sebastian Batz at their MixBerlin Studios during the creation process for their new Rig Pack. Hannes was so kind and took the time to show and explain to us their profiling process, the gear, the workflow, and the use of the two Dynamount MicRobots. Last but not least Hannes also gets a bit into details regarding the importance of an isolated room for the cabinets and the use of his amazingly reliced T-Style guitar. As a special treat, Mixberlin made a small Rig Pack available for free to all the PROFILER players out there and Hannes created even a full, ripping track with „X“ the profile and „U“ the original amp sound. We updated our Orange Rockerverb Kemper pack and did an A/B comparison. We added 4 new massive profiles to it for maximum rock. Again with a sm57 and u87 combination. This is the Kemper Profile Pack you have been waiting for. It is made for pop clean sounds that you hear all over the radio. We just felt there were no profiles in this style. These are 6 profiles of 3 of the most sought after Clean amps. A vintage AC-30 from 72, a Fender Hot Rod and last but far from least the Marshall Bluesbreaker. We have mic’d them in a modern way using a blend of a U87 on the edge of the cone for the top end, an SM57 half way out for grit and a 421 also half way out for the tone! We used the Marshall 1960 handwired cabinet loaded with G12H. This is a fantastic cab which has a very open top end and nice tight basses. The settings on the amp were slightly different for each profile. Depending on the output of your guitar you can raise or lower the gain slightly. This works very well with these profiles. There is also a shimmer sound in the pack to show you how these profiles sound with big delays. ENJOY! Mixberlin Million Dollar Metal Pack contains 22 Profiles from 4 of the most sought after metal amps. All profiles were captured with only one SM57 and adjusted to perfection with the dynamount mic robot. We also made some EQ settings in the EFFECTS section of the Kemper which can easily be deactivated. We used the Oversize Cab to capture all the tones. For this Kemper package we paired up with custom guitar builder "Hapas Guitars" to profile their Mesa Boogie Mark V. We used a Hapas Sludge 727 custom guitar to profile this beautiful amp. We also used the Hapas custom 2x12 V30 cabinet that as hardwired by Robert and Pawel at Hapas. The result is HARD TUNES. The idea was to capture a puristic raw performance and mix it with modern sound and engineering. Video doesn't represent the live take. It is cut out of 10 takes and its for beauty only. The music was performed in one take with one guitar overdub for double tracking. This video shows our method of guitar production. 4 mics were summed to mono and recorded into ProTools. We want to show how to get them in phase and blend them to taste for perfect tone. A Mesa Dual Rectifier was used as our reference amp. Sebastian has recently started working as a mix and mastering engineer for multi platinum awarded producer Paul Matthews. He is a guest tutor for mixing classes at SAE Zürich. Besides his work as a producer, Hannes is a sought after touring guitarist. He is currently touring with Alligatoah, one of Germany's biggest Hip-Hop/Pop artists, and has played with the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra.
