XIAO means small in Chinese. Previously, they launched Seeeduino XIAO the smallest Arduino, and this time the XIAO ESP32C3. These are the ESP32 WiFi + Bluetooth modules I have been using for a long time and this is the XIAO ESP32C3 WiFi + Bluetooth module. Just look at the size difference. The SEEED Studio’s ESP32C3 is extremely small in size. Anyway, since this is a getting started tutorial, I will try my level best to explain each and every detail including, 1. Technical specifications. 2. Pinout 3. ESP32C3 board installation using Arduino IDE. 4. Writing our first program to control any LED. 5. I will also use it with the Adafruit IO for monitoring the Temperature and Humidity. So, without any further delay, let’s get started!!! Here is the Seeed Studio’s XIAO ESP32C3 which is an IoT “Internet of things” mini development board based on the Espressif ESP32-C3 WiFi and Bluetooth dual-mode chip. You might be wondering what is C3? Well, actually ESP32 has a number of variants; for example ESP32 S2, S3, C3, C5, C6, and H2. The ESP32C3 type is a single-core 32-bit RISC-V CPU, up to 160 MHz. It has excellent radio frequency performance, supporting IEEE 802.11 b/g/n WiFi 2.4 GHz, and Bluetooth 5 (low energy) protocols. The board has this IPEX connector which is used to connect the WiFi/Bluetooth Antenna to increase the signal strength for your wireless applications… This is an Ultra-Low power module that consumes only 43uA when in Deep Sleep mode. This board also has the battery charging chip that can be used to charge the lithium battery. It has 400KB of SRAM and 4MB of on-board Flash memory. First, we will go through basic usage like the blinking of LED and reading the DHT11 Sensor Data. Under the WiFi usage category, we will create a simple web server where data of a sensor can be viewed on a Webserver. Finally, under the BLE usage part, we will scan the Bluetooth devices nearby using the Bluetooth feature of this board. O vídeo de hoje é sobre Arduino 2.0 e o novo ESP32-C3 RISC-V Escolher o chip correto para seu produto pode ser a diferença entre o sucesso e o fracasso. A arquitetura interna de um chip é um assunto muito específico e embora eu goste muito desse assunto vou abordar o uso desse novo chip junto ao Arduino 2.0 . As indústrias de chips estão passando por muitas mudanças causadas em parte pela pandemia, política e pelo movimento natural que existe de melhorar a engenharia dos chips. A Espressif lançou um chip muito interessante para internet das coisas IoT que combina conectividade wifi com baixo consumo de energia. Se você se interessar por comprar o esp32 e o esp32-c3 aqui vai minha dica: No link do esp32-c3 🤍 ele tem bluetooth 5.0, o Módulo dele custa menos de 4 dólares esse preço ai é só do dev kit então saiba que ele tem ótimo custo benefício. A AI Thinker não perdeu tempo e também está fabricando os módulos do esp32-c3 O Est32 achei por um preço inacreditável no link 🤍 compensa comprar de 10 a 20 para aproveitar o frete ! Se ele venderem mais barato que isso, acho melhor dar logo de graça o produto ! Logo no início eu mostro como instalar o Arduino 2.0 : arduino/arduino-ide E ensino como deletar e instalar a Lib que é chamada também de core arduino feita pela própria Espressif. neste endereço : espressif/arduino-esp32 Ainda menciono o endereço do Json que deve incluir nas urls no menu de file- Preferences 🤍 Feito isso, fica evidente que programar um RISC-V é totalmente transparente, ou seja, você nem pensa que ele usa essa arquitetura porque no nível do C/C você pode usar as rotinas como usava na arquitetura Tensilica. Eu fiz dois testes neste chip, e se me permitem a liberdade poética aqui, não são testes de laboratório, mas dão alguma ideia de performance e do consumo de corrente. O teste de corrente eu fiz ligando um cabo usb na fonte RIDEN RD6006 que tem 4 dígitos de precisão superior até ao seu modelo 6012 de 12 amperes que tenho também. Sobre a velocidade do chip eu fiz uma comparação usando o mesmo programa quando comparei diversos chips de arquiteturas diferentes: 🤍 Acredito que esse chip se enquadra entre o ESP32 wroom e o esp8266. Antes que alguém me pergunte, eu não creio que a Espressif vá descontinuar o esp8266 pois é usado em muitos produtos, inclusive na minha fonte RD6006 que usei nesse vídeo e como ele mesma informa em seu site, há um compromisso de manter o produto por 12 anos. O site hackaday.com especulou isso em fevereiro mas eu ví o Pedro Minatel da Espressif falando na sua Live que isso não era provável. In my previous video, I explained its technical specifications, it’s pinout, board installation using Arduino IDE, and I also practically demonstrated how to control an LED and how to make an IoT based temperature and Humidity monitoring system using the Adafruit IO and the ESP32C3 onboard WiFi. So, if you are just starting with the XIAO ESP32C3 then I highly recommend, you should watch my previous video. Anyway, in today’s episode, you will learn how to use XIAO ESP32C3 onboard Bluetooth with an Android application for controlling electrical appliances. Besides this, I will also do a range test. And we will see if the XIAO ESP32C3 onboard Low Energy Bluetooth 5 and this WiFi/Bluetooth Antenna really increases the signal strength. The manufacturer claims that it has a maximum communication range of +100 meters. If it’s true then it means I can control my home appliances and other electrical loads even from outside; 100 meters is such a long distance. I am still gonna be quite happy even if it gives me around 40 to 50 meters. HC05 Bluetooth module never gave me such a long distance. And look at the size difference XIAO ESP32C3 is much smaller than the HC05 Bluetooth module. So, using the smallest ESP32C3 development board we can really reduce the project size and cost. Anyway, first I am going to share with you the final test results and afterward, I will explain everything else. Espressif Systems and ESP-RS Open source community made it possible to develop for ESP32 (S2, S3) chips with Xtensa and ESP32-C3 with RISC-V architecture. Developing embedded projects are possible both with STD and Bare Metal. It's very easy to start playing with chips even without hardware, just using the simulator 🤍 . A long road of designing, testing and optimizing this device has reached an end. The Picoclicks are WiFi connected buttons for the internet of things. They can send messages which perform different actions in your smart home or the world wide web. But the Picoclick-C3 has become more than just an IOT-button. Due to its extension port it can be used as a tiny development board. It can communicate with other I2C devices like shown in the video, but the external GPIOs can be used in several different ways. More over this Picoclick can be activate by an external source (and not the button itself) which implies tons of new possibilities. The extension boards for the Picoclick can be very useful. This video demonstrates ESP-NOW, which is a wireless communication protocol based on the data-link layer defined by Espressif. The big difference ESP-NOW makes is that it reduces the five layers of the OSI model to only one. Also, there is no need for packet headers or unpackers on each layer, which leads to a quick response reducing the delay caused by packet loss in congested networks. Additionally, ESP-NOW occupies fewer CPU and flash resources than traditional connection protocols, while it co-exists with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth LE. ESP-NOW supports various series of Espressif chips, providing a flexible data transmission that is suitable for connecting “one-to-many” and “many-to-many” devices. Moreover, ESP-NOW can be used as an independent, auxiliary protocol that helps with device provisioning, debugging, and firmware upgrades. All in all, ESP-NOW, Espressif’s wireless communication protocol is efficient, responsive, and easy-to-develop.
