Label: Nuclear Blast Format: Blu-ray, CD, LP Released: Nov 11, 2013 Genre: Rock Style: Power Metal, Symphonic Metal Retrospect is the third live album released by the Dutch symphonic metal band Epica in celebration of their tenth anniversary. The recorded live show took part in Eindhoven, Netherlands on March 23, 2013, at the Klokgebouw and was sold out. Because of the great demand by international fans, Epica announced a live stream, called the Retrostream, on March 4, 2013. Epica performed on stage with the same orchestra that accompanied Epica in the recording of the live album The Classical Conspiracy: the 70-piece Extended Hungarian Remenyi Ede Chamber Orchestra and the Choir of Miskolc National Theatre. The expanded ensemble mostly played Epica songs, including a whole new song called Retrospect, especially written for this live show with the same name. Like on The Classical Conspiracy, Epica played some classical music, excerpts from operas and movie soundtracks, however not as many as on the aforementioned show. The album was released on CD, DVD and Blu-ray on November 8, 2013, through Nuclear Blast Records. Before the release of the show on Blu-ray and DVD, the show premiered at two movie theaters: Mathäser Multiplex Kino in Munich, Germany (November 6) and Service Bioscoop Zien in Eindhoven, Netherlands (November 7). On the day of the release, the show was shown in a Belgian movie theater: Kinepolis in Kortrijk, Belgium. The day after, the show was shown a final time in a movie theater: Cineteca Nacional in Mexico City (November 9). Mené par Simone Simons, sorte de déesse celtique des temps modernes, la formation n’a pas son pareil pour associer metal symphonique, metal gothique et metal progressif. Impossible d’ailleurs de mentionner ces différents styles sans penser aux six néerlandais. Epica se rapproche en cela des tout aussi culte Within Temptation et Nightwish, se distinguant cependant par son amour plus prononcé pour le metal. Groupe au nom particulièrement bien choisi, Epica nous transporte à chaque chanson dans un nouvel univers magique où se dévoilent épopées mystiques, paysages majestueux, héros en armure et créatures démoniaques. Particulièrement évocatrice et cinématographique, la musique de Simone Simons et ses acolytes possède l’étrange pouvoir de changer les salles de concerts en château hanté, les festivals en scène de bataille. Initially recorded in 2006 at the beautiful Paradiso venue in Amsterdam, the performance has become shrouded in legend; often scheduled for release, this will be the first time it's seen the light of day. The recording allows fans to relive the memories of a young band who had just released their two first albums, and features a number of their evergreen hits like 'Cry For The Moon' or 'Solitary Ground'. Now, after being hidden away in a dark drawer for more than 16 years, Live At Paradiso is finally available on 2CD and Blu-ray - specifically revamped in 4K resolution. The DVD was originally planned to be released in 2006 but was put on hold due to the fact that Transmission Records went broke and they had the rights of these songs as well as this recording. Officially was released in 2022 through Napalm Records. Recorded on May 4 2006 at Paradiso Grote Zaal, Amsterdam, Netherlands during the Consign To Oblivion Tour.
