I wanted the gameplay capture to cover a first play(my daughter) and a counter play(myself) to show you the difference of how a newbie and a veteran approach the game. You'll see similar scenes play out very differently because I knew where items were and how not to get my life bar drained easily. 3. The gameplay capture was very difficult in this one. With so few stages, it would be easy to show you the bulk of the game in 15 minutes. I tried to avoid major spoilers, particularly the ending. 4. Comix Zone's continue system is still a mystery to me. You can get continues but I honestly have no clue how. 5. Try and keep your pet rat with you at all times. That little dude is worth his weight in gold. He finds items, paths and really comes through like nothing else in the game. 6. If you are finding it difficult, there is a cheat for unlimited life. Use it to try and get a feel for the gameplay and using the items. It may help you enough to where you don't need it later on.

This seems to work so I will likely do it this way in the future (removing one generation of loss from youtube's reencoding). I'm doing the recordings at 44.1KHz now simply because youtube resamples it anyway, so we might as well avoid that. There's no reason to do them any higher than this and you won't hear a difference. They're also being recorded in 24 bit and converted down to 16 bit when normalizing & encoding the FLAC file but again this shouldn't actually change anything on your end. I was originally going from 24 bit PCM to 384k AAC directly but I don't know if this approach actually preserved the 24 bit range or not (or even if it made any difference at all with youtube re-encoding it anyway). Music notes: Yes, "Introduction" really does cut off like that, you never normally hear the whole thing but that's all that's there in the GEMS sequence data I originally recorded this from VGM files but realized that a lot of them sounded weird in slight ways so I ended up recording a lot of it from the sound test and then afterward, my GEMS replayer tool (since there was no nice way of stopping/starting music in the sound test). I am seriously reconsidering using VGM as a recording source but for some games there's no way around it. It may also be the VGM replayer.

It is set within the panels of a comic book with bright dynamic backgrounds and dialogues shown as speech bubbles. As for the gameplay, Comix Zone is an old brawler where the player controls the main character (Sketch Turner) as he progresses through the panels of his comic hoping to reach the end and escape before his own creations finish him off. Each episode consists of two pages. Every page has secrets that can be discovered by shredding the paper. Along with using standard attacks such as punching and kicking, Sketch can store up to three items, for example bombs and knives, in his inventory to use them throughout the game. He can also pick up drinks to restore the health and fists that temporarily transform the character into a superhero. His rat Roadkill can help discover hidden items and new areas. Turner can tear off a piece of the book and create a paper airplane to throw it at enemies, but it costs health and it can also hurt the main character if he is not careful. In order to progress, the player often has to either successfully solve a puzzle or defeat all enemies within the panel. A yellow arrow will then appear allowing Sketch to jump to another panel, with some areas offering multiple routes. If Turner dies, the game ends and the main villain Mortus takes his place in the real world. However, the player can gain an extra chance by clearing the first and second episode, which allows Sketch to resume from the beginning of the page should he meet his death. At the end of each stage, a super hero meter fills up tracking the progress. The game has a good ending (Well Done Turner!) and bad ending which depends on whether Sketch saves Alissa or not. So, when I first started running this game, I didn't think it would be that bad to run. But after I broke down the game and were getting better, faster strats, that's when I found out just how insane this game really is. Everything is random...the enemy AI, the item drops (the ? ones), even some dialog. On top of that, random glitches can happen that will completely ruin a run. If you wanna see a good example, look through my videos for the reset glitch. I have had so many run get ruined just by random bullshit, most that will cost me a lot of time, and most of the time, I can't do anything about it except just deal with it. That's pretty much what I did with this run. It can be improved somewhat, but the game is so random, you're damn lucky if you even make it through the game at all.

Comix Zone is a really awesome Sega Genesis game where you are sucked inside a comic book world that becomes a beat em up! This is the end of a 4 hour stream. It took me about 5 attempts to beat it. This is the longplay of the game Comix Zone, action/beat n 'up game originally released for Sega Genesis and then ported to Windows and Game Boy Advance. This version of Genesis was released in 1995, developed by Sega Technical Institute and published by SEGA. The game starts when a professional designer named Sketch Turner, the "starving artist" and freelance rock musician living in New York City, and has a mouse as a pet, called Roadkill. On a stormy night, while working on his comic "Comix Zone", lightning strikes the drawing board where the artist and his mouse were and something inexplicable happens: the terrible and dangerous villain Mortus, jumps off the pages into the world real. Mortus escapes to the real world, but in reality it is made only of paper and ink, and to become "real" in our reality, he needs to destroy Sketch Turner, which is sent into his own comic, along with the mouse. During the game, our hero is guided by a girl named Alissa Cyan, who guides Sketch along the way. Sketch finds out that he has become the main superhero in his history, gaining strength and combat skills that will help fight monsters, bandits and various other types of creatures, which are now drawn by Mortus. The game has a whole style of comics and several alternative paths, has a good soundtrack with grunge style and very detailed graphics. It's a beat n 'up, but it requires a lot of strategy, since the character has only one life and the items need to be used wisely. It is sometimes necessary to use items correctly to avoid having to break obstacles with bare hands, as this can also injure the character. Items such as grenades, knives, dynamite and drinks to regain health need to be used with caution. In the late lifecycle of the SEGA Mega Drive, or SEGA Genesis as it’s known in the US, Sega Technical Institute was still able to come up with a unique game for the system, which was Comix Zone. The game was first pitched by Peter Morawiec in 1992 using a concept video titled "Joe Pencil Trapped In The Comix Zone". After starting development, the game was put on hold as the focus was to release Sonic Spinball for the 1993 holiday season. While it seemed Comix Zone was scrapped, Tom Kalinske revived the project as he was interested in the concept. Finally, in 1995, Comix Zone was released. Because it was released late in the lifecycle of the system, with the SEGA Saturn, N64 and new PlayStation piquing the consumers’ interest. Comix Zone ended up as a commercial flop. But since its release, the game has gotten a cult following, with more and more people discovering and appreciating the game, so many years after its initial release. Comix Zone is a 1995 beat 'em up video game developed and published by Sega for the Sega Genesis. An unusual feature of the game is that it is set within the panels of a comic book with dialogue rendered within talk bubbles and sprites and backgrounds possessing the bright colours and dynamic drawing style favoured by superhero comics. This style had been used in video games previously, for example Ocean Software's Batman: The Caped Crusader in 1988,[1] but Comix Zone stretched the idea to such an extent that Sega applied for and were granted a patent for a "Videogame system for creating a simulated comic book game".[2]
