I got these from merchant12 on ebay.com: Super Flux - FTKA (ru ФТКА), working temperature 180°C. Super Flux - F61A (ru Ф61А), operating temperature 180-250°С. Works with tin/lead solder on aluminum.
The Super Alloy 5 rod is 18 inches long and comes in 1/16" and 3/32" The 1/16" is excellent for repairing thin aluminum such as home, auto, and commercial air conditioning units, auto radiators, and evaporators. The 3/32" works well for bridging gaps, larger holes, cast aluminum, a variety of more significant, thicker aluminum. If you already have the 3/32" rod, you can take a hammer and flatten the rod to your desired thickness. This torch tip will not work with the Super Alloy 5. Propane can provide more heat than this tip will allow. This Bernzomatic torch is employed for the majority of the aluminum videos on our site when using Mapp gas and propane. From my experience, the torches that have an adjustable flame control tend to work a little better. And can push more heat. You often need this with aluminum. These torches found at muggyweld.com while supplies last Never allow the aluminum to sit flush upon a metal table when torch-brazing. The table will pull the heat away very quickly, causing undue frustration. Likewise, closing the jaws of a vise too close to the work area creates the same problem with heat dissipation. An easy solution is to lift the aluminum off the table with a steel wire. Another is using ceramic tiles or using fire bricks etc. Thin aluminum cools faster than anything you will ever solder or braze. Make the process easier by not allowing the white metal from contacting heatsinks. The best way to apply the flux is to heat the rod for a second or two and dip the rod into the powdered flux; repeat if the flux doesn't grab well. A common mistake is blocking the area with the rod before the aluminum has reached the working temperature. As a result, the rod inhibits heating the desired location you want the Super Alloy 5 to repair. Instead, broadly heat the area adjacent to the hole or crack. This technique prevents the surrounding aluminum from sucking the heat away. First we preheat, apply the flux, flux turns clear, flow the rod out flat with the torch. Because we are brazing on thin aluminum, we always keep our heat moving to prevent the metal from getting too hot and collapsing. Again, preheat the parent aluminum, paint the flux on with the torch, pull the rod back and continue heating until the powder flux turns clear. We turned the torch down a bit, so the process would be easier to follow. And it will mimic some torches that do not have an adjustable flame. There were some contaminates around the hole, so we added a little more flux, dabbed the rod to test the temperature, and heated the rod slightly to soften it as we applied it to the aluminum. The next hole will close much faster as the aluminum is already warmed. Notice the flux is more active than before, cleaning the oil, dirt and, grease away while sealing the hole shut. Quickly pull the torch away once you see the rod flow out flat. When joining two pieces of aluminum together, a longer preheat is needed. Again, the flux will tell us when the metal is ready to accept the rod. We will heat the front back and side to side on both plates to bring the aluminum to the correct temperature. The plates pictured are only a couple of inches in length and thin. If we were working on a larger project, we would preheat longer and possibly need a hotter torch setup like oxyacetylene. When working on thick to thin aluminum, add more heat to the heavier section as it will take longer to reach the desired brazing temperature. We continue heating where the two plates meet, watching for the flux to turn from gray to clear. The more comfortable you get with handling the torch, and what to look for, you will find yourself turning up the fuel on the flame. If we were to add the rod before the plate was ready, the rod would ball up. Discard the balled-up material and continue heating the parent metal. #AluminumBrazingTips #HowToSolderAluminum #TorchBrazingAluminum #SolderingAluminum #TechniqueForBrazingAluminum # Please read all instructions prior to use at: 🤍 For more videos and information, or to order, visit 🤍 _ Please visit 🤍 prior to using Muggy Weld products, and adhere to all AWS welding safety guidelines. Every beginner can easily learn how to weld aluminum! Aluminum welding rods like these Alumiweld Rods from Harbor Freight make welding aluminum without a Tig Welder or Spool Welder possible. This system is affordable and the process is simple. These aluminum welding rods make it possible to to braze weld aluminum in the field, in the shop or on the job site. There are several brands of these aluminum welding rods but in this video I used the Alumiweld rods from Harbor Freight. The price for these aluminum rods is under $20 which makes them very affordable. Welding aluminum with these rods requires practice to be sure. I found that there are three key factors for success with brazing aluminum. The first is surface preparation. Sanding, wire brushing and a thorough cleaning with a solvent like acetone or alcohol is a critical foundation to the process. The second key is stabilizing the piece to be welded. Clamping and immobilizing the aluminum that you are working on will assist in heat flexing. The third factor that I found was temperature. The Alumiweld rods have a working temperature of 730° which oddly enough is the same max temperature of MAP gas. The max temperature of propane is about 600°, so I chose to use MAP. I found that evenly heating the parent metal along the entire length of the weld worked best for me. I also notice more success when I didn't "rush" the temperature/process. 🎶Music for this video: 🤍 🚀Share this video with a friend: 🤍 🎥 Watch this video: How To Use Aluminum Welding Rods 🤍 - 🙏Help me fund future projects! $❤️$ Use the "Thanks" Button Above OR ☕️ 🤍 - Social Media 🔵 Join the Facebook conversation 🤍 🟣Follow me on Instagram: 🤍 ⚫️TikTok 🤍 🧲Subscribe Today: 🤍 🙂Full disclosure here, I do receive a small commission from traffic that I drive to my affiliate links. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• EBL Product Links 🔋⚡️EBL Rechargeable AAA Batteries Pack of 8 🤍 🔋⚡️EBL Rechargeable AA Batteries Pack of 8 🤍 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Amazon Links ✅Bernzotmatic Aluminum Welding Rods (If you don' have a HarborFreight near you) 🤍 ✅MAP Gas Kit: 🤍 ✅"Reader" Safety Glasses 👓 🤍 🟢EZ-Up Ambassador Canopy: 🤍 🎯 Goal Zero Products 🤍 🏆Made in USA🇺🇸 Leatherman "Rev" Multitool (around $50)🤍 Leatherman 🤍 For Businesses Inquiries please Email: mrfredsdiy🤍yahoo.com Mr Fred 505 E Windmill Lane STE 1C -217 Las Vegas NV 89123 #mrfredsdiy #diy #aluminium
A while back I tried a few times to solder copper wire to aluminum foil, but no matter how much i tried it did not work. I used different type of oil (car engine oil, olive oil, sunflower seed oil etc.) to cover the surface of aluminum and scrape the surface of aluminum with soldering iron to remove the oxide layer under oil and then solder it, but did not work. In other Youtube videos people seems to have success with that method, but i did not manage it. A while back i bought a flux from Ali express to solder copper to stainless steel. Today I was cleaning my house a bit and i saw this flux. I tried it on aluminum and it worked really perfectly, as shown in the video. You can buy it from aliexpress using the following name/link "35ml Stainless Steel Flux Soldering Stainless Steel Liquid Solders Water Durable Liquid Solders 83XA" 🤍 Last Monday I had my final evaluation and still am waiting for the results. Today I'll be melting down 250 aluminum cans and using Mortons lite salt to see if that helps as a flux. I've been told by numerous people that it will help limit the amount of slag/dross in the aluminum melting process so I am testing out this idea. I'm goin to use to foil balls filled with salt and add them in before I remove the slag and pour the molten metal. If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up and hit that Subscribe button. Super Alloy 1 contains cadmium. Aluminum welding, brazing, and soldering are now quick and easy using a simple handheld torch and Super Alloy 1 and Super Alloy 5 premium welding alloys. Super Alloy 1 is a 350°F aluminum alloy that flows at such a low temperature it can even be used with a heat gun on small aluminum parts. (Indirect heat is recommended). This multi-metal solder will bond to many metals without distortion to the parent metal: pot metal, aluminum (except cast aluminum), steel, copper, brass, bronze, zinc die-cast, and pewterindividually or to each other. Super Alloy 5 is a 600°F aluminum brazing rod and flux kit that bonds aluminum at weld strength. The amazing alloy works synergistically with the powder flux, which transforms to a liquid remove unseen contaminates, and act as an absolute temperature guideturning to a liquid when the parent metal reaches proper working temperature. Super Alloy 5 works well on thin aluminum as well as thicker castings. (An oxyacetylene torch is required on heavier aluminum and cast aluminum, aluminum boats and wheels etc). Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube. When using either of these alloys, always wear eye protection and keep your head out of the fume zone. #AluminumWelding #AluminumBrazing #AluminumSoldering #HowtoRepairAluminum #AluminumRepairTips Please read all instructions prior to use at: 🤍 For more videos and information, or to order, visit 🤍 or 🤍 _ Please visit 🤍 prior to using Muggy Weld products, and adhere to all AWS welding safety guidelines. Can I solder aluminium? I was working on one of the small LiIon batteries in the Power Pods from Poundland and the tag fell off the positive terminal. Soldering directly on a LiIon battery is asking for trouble because you could easily overheat it and start a reaction inside that could potentially end with boiling electrolyte and even flames. I wanted to try a technique for soldering on Aluminium but actually managed to get solder onto the remaining ferrous tag. That was good enough to get the battery working again and I did this separate video on soldering on some Aluminium sheet from a drinks can. Super Alloy 1 is used in thousands of shops in the US. Mike demonstrates how to make the same repairs your local shop is using... with a propane torch. Always clean your aluminum before soldering. A stainless brush works well to clean the aluminum tubes. You can repair cuts in the side of the tubing. You will need to remove the fins in the area when working on the side of the tube. Super Alloy 1 will not burn or melt the fins if soldered correctly. The same rod will work on brass radiators. Always work perpendicular or straight up from the hole or cu in the radiator. You want to torch to mushroom out evenly when the flame hits the aluminum. This will ensure an even heat on the tubing. You can solder on the tube to header on the aluminum and brass radiators. If you only have an oxyacetylene torch to work with, just make sure to turn the oxygen way down as 350°F can get there quickly with this torch. The rod will work with some heat guns. Always flux before, during, and at the end as the flux is needed to make an airtight repair. You can work with the radiator in the vertical position. Let the solder cool naturally. You can use warm water and a wire brush to remove the flux. Clean the flux off of the rod before placing it back into the PVC tube. #LowTempRadiatorRepair #RadiatorRepairTips #HowToWeldAluminumRadiators #SolderAluminumRadiators #AluminumTubingRepair #SolderRadiatorVideo Please read all instructions prior to use at: 🤍 For more videos and information, or to order, visit: 🤍 _ Please visit 🤍 prior to using Muggy Weld products, and adhere to all AWS welding safety guidelines.
