Okay Sega fans! Sega has a rich history of arcade games going back to the 70s. In this video, I've captured 100 Sega arcade games from 1980 to 1988. There are many obscure ones (at least that I had never heard of), but we see the start of Sega's golden age here, with classics like Space Harrier and Outrun appearing. Stay turned for Part 2!

These games are perfectly playable in MAME but many have visual and audio issues. 2. Despite being nothing like the arcade, Outrunners on the Genesis actually has a decent soundtrack. I use it here in the closing segment. 3. Outrunners is one of my favorite racing games ever. I first saw it at a summer camping retreat when I was 18. I dumped many credits into it that weekend. 4. I mention multiplayer numerous times here because most of these games had it and the entire balance of the gameplay was designed around it. The more people you have often leads to a much better experience. 5. I always thought the Sega CD would have been a great place for many of these games. It's true there would have been a lot of concessions and cutbacks, but I feel many would have still been well worth the effort. Especially since the Sega CD had so few games that really showed off its features.
In this video, we'll take a look at my entire Sega collection! From the classic Sega Genesis to the elusive Sega arcade games, I've got it all! Get ready to relive the memories and experience the nostalgia as we go through my impressive collection. In addition to the arcade games, you'll also get a glimpse of my complete collection of Sega consoles, including the Sega Dreamcast, Sega CDX, SEGA 32X and the Sega CD. Each console has its own unique features and games, and I'll give you a rundown of the best titles available on each one. This video is not just for Sega fans, but for anyone who loves classic gaming. So sit back, relax, and let's dive into my Sega collection! Join us on this 4K walk exploration tour of the actual line up of Akihabara Retro Kan, in the former Sega 3rd Building. The game center is currently named under Gigo, which is the company who bought up the arcade business from Sega. You can enjoy a lot of different machines from the past, some of them very unusual. A lot of dedicated Arcade cabinets such as Sega Rally, Daytona, Outrun, Time Crisis, House of the Dead but also generic cabinet models like Net City, Blast City, Astro City and Aero City. I hope you get the chance to enjoy it too when you visit Japan and Akihabara.

When I complete a longplay video, I always try and write up a review about my experience with the game: the good, bad and anything in between. All of this seems somewhat pointless when it comes to the original arcade version of OutRun because you all know it's fantastic and is one of the greatest driving games ever made. That last sentence is more relevant than you might think. When marketing the game, Yu Suzuki described OutRun not as a racing game, but as a driving game instead. Having played the game, you start to understand what he meant by this. OutRun is a point-to-point race across the continent against the clock. The game takes you on a road-trip across five different stages in order to reach the end goal. You initially have seventy-five seconds to reach the checkpoint at the end of the stage, at which point your remaining time will be extended by a set amount, allowing you to continue playing; fail to make the next checkpoint before your time runs out and it's game over. Setting the game on public roads rather than a race track means that there's plenty of traffic to avoid. Colliding with another car will result in you losing control of your car, as well as losing precious seconds from the already tight time limit. Worse still, hitting a roadside obstacle will cause you to crash, hurling your car into the air and catapulting your driver and passenger out in the process...these people have obviously never heard of seatbelts! The game is famous for being non-linear in that it allows the player to choose which route to take to the finish line. The road forks at the end of the stage, allowing the player to choose which route to take to the finish line, which adds replay value to the game. Some stages are more challenging than others thanks to narrower roads, or more road-side obstacles, so players are likely to have their own preferred route to the finish line. The game features absolutely phenomenal graphics for the time and displays them at a flawless 60 Hz refresh rate. This was made possible thanks to Sega's second generation Super Scalar technology and powerful hardware (2 x Motorola 6800 CPUs clocked at 12.5 MHz each). The only problem is that none of the home conversions really came anywhere close to recreating the arcade experience at home, although the Mega Drive version is probably the best of these. It wasn't until a version arrived for the Sega Saturn that you could play a 100% accurate version of the arcade game in the comfort of your own home. For once, the music is equally as memorable as the graphics. The game features three separate music tracks that the player can select before starting the race, and they're all brilliant (my favourite being Magical Sound Shower). The audio is remarkably crisp and clear and features plenty of high quality, digital instrument samples. In fact, so great was the music that I remember the C64 home version coming bundled with a cassette tape that had the original arcade soundtrack on it! The game was available as a traditional upright cabinet, as well as the deluxe sit-down versions that featured a moving cabin, force-feedback steering wheel and big colour screen. This would have been the centre-piece in any arcade and Sega was sparing no expense in proving their dominance in the gaming arena during the 1980's. Of course, graphics and sound are nothing if the game isn't any fun to play. Fortunately, it's one of the best racing experiences out there and also one of the toughest. You'll need sharp reflexes and a good memory to dodge the traffic whilst staying on the track; it's all too easy to get distracted and end up a smouldering wreck at the side of the road. On occasion there can be traffic blocking all the lanes, so you really need to pick your moment as to when to overtake. If I have have one issue with the game then it's the inconsistency in how the car handles when taking corners. Some corners can be taken at full speed, whilst others will see you skidding off the road despite the sharpness/curvature of the road being exactly the same. Dealing with this in a circuit racer is easier because it takes less time to memorise a specific track, whereas trying to remember all the twists and turns in a non-linear race whilst dodging traffic is much more difficult. At the end of the day, this is a minor issue and OutRun continues to be a fantastic racing game that is still worth taking the time to play. So, start the engine, turn up the stereo and enjoy one of the finest driving games ever made. #retrogaming #sega #retrogames
All Sega Model 2 games rendered 🤍 4k resolution. There's a timer in the bottom left for each game time remaining. I don't think Yu Suzuki would have imagined these games being rendered at this resolution back in the 90s. It's amazing how well they stand the test of time. Sure they lack some of the modern day graphical bling, but there's a certain...vintage charm that you don't get in games these days. It was an incredible system. Sega made 2 billion dollars from cabinet sales with model 2 hardware in it!!!!! The 90s were glorious times for arcade and gaming. Sega Model 3 Showcase Video: 🤍 Nintendo Triforce Showcase Video: 🤍 Here's a longer history snippet taken from Sega Retro. 🤍 The Model 2's development was led by famed game designer Yu Suzuki and his team at Sega AM2 as part of a joint project between Sega, Fujitsu and GE Aerospace (acquired by Martin Marietta in 1993, now part of Lockheed Martin). Sega developed the polygon geometry engine in-house, using Fujitsu coprocessors DSP coprocessors that were modified with Sega's custom microcode for hardware T&L capabilities (it would be years before hardware T&L would appear on consumer home systems). This was then combined with GE Aerospace's expensive texture-mapping technology, which Suzuki's team condensed into a more affordable chipset. Suzuki stated that the Model 2's texture mapping chip originated "from military equipment from Lockheed Martin, which was formerly General Electric Aerial & Space's textural mapping technology. It cost $2 million USD to use the chip. It was part of flight-simulation equipment that cost $32 million. I asked how much it would cost to buy just the chip and they came back with $2 million. And I had to take that chip and convert it for video game use, and make the technology available for the consumer at 5,000 yen ($50)" per machine. He said "it was tough but we were able to make it for 5,000 yen. Nobody at Sega believed me when I said I wanted to purchase this technology for our games." Suzuki stated that, in "the end," it "was a hit and the industry gained mass-produced texture-mapping as a result." For Virtua Fighter 2, he also utilized motion capture technology, introducing it to the game industry. There were also issues working on the new CPU, the Intel i960-KB, which had just released in 1993. Suzuki stated that when working "on a brand new CPU, the debugger doesn't exist yet. The latest hardware doesn't work because it's full of bugs. And even if a debugger exists, the debugger itself is full of bugs. So, I had to debug the debugger. And of course with new hardware there's no library or system, so I had to create all of that, as well. It was a brutal cycle." In a late 1998 interview, Read3D's Jon Lenyo, a former employee of GE Aerospace (later Lockheed Martin), stated that Sega's development for the Model 2 can be traced back as early as November 1990, when he and other GE Aerospace employees visited Sega and demonstrated the trilinear texture filtering and shading capabilities of their technology. As Sega was already working on the Sega Model 1 internally, they eventually incorporated GE Aerospace's technology into the Model 2. The arcade board debuted along with Daytona USA, a game which was finished and copyrighted in 1993, and debuted at the Amusement Machine Show 1993. Despite its high price tag of around $15,000 (equivalent to $25,000 in 2014), the Model 2 platform was very successful. It featured some of the highest grossing arcade games of all time, including Daytona USA, Virtua Fighter 2, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On, The House of the Dead, and Dead or Alive, to name a few. Sega sold over 33,000 units of the Model 2 in its first year, followed by 65,000 units annually, and eventually sold over 130,000 units by 1996, amounting to $2 billion revenue from hardware cabinet sales (over $3 billion with inflation), making it one of the best-selling arcade systems of all time. #sega #arcade

During my travel recently, I came across a retro arcade with games from the 90s and I knew I must document it down since its so difficult to find such arcades outside of Japan. Even so, I'm sure most Japanese arcades do not have such old games in store. From Time Crisis, Virtua Fighter, Virtua Striker, Daytona USA, Radmobile, Virtua Cop, House of the Dead, Outrun and many more, you can see all of them in this video. If only the operator put some effort and time in maintenance and bring all these machines back to the state in its glorious days... #retrogaming #retroarcade #arcade #arcadegames

Join me for a very fun game of OutRun 2, on one of the magnificent SDX arcade cabinets!!! :D Not only is the game itself fun, but this it gets even better on the SDX machines, featuring four full size cars (each with two steering wheels) which allows up to 8 players to play against each other! As well as massive 62 inch screens, a race leader board and cameras, and also motion hydraulics. These things are truly awesome! Apparently these particular arcade machines are extremely rare too, so I think myself extremely lucky to have one of these in an arcade that I visit quite often!! So overall, I rate this a solid 10/10 EASY!!! xD The gameplay obviously wasn't the best, however due to filming, I had to do it one handed!!! :) And at least I managed to reach the goal! YAY!!! Arcade Games Discord 🤍 All Sega Model 3 games rendered 🤍 4k resolution. This video shows all games except for the undumped and incredibly rare Boat Race GP. Check out my other system showcase videos here: Sega Model 2 Showcase Video: 🤍 Nintendo Triforce Showcase Video: 🤍 There's a timer in the bottom right for each game time remaining. The Sega Model 3 hardware was pretty insane for it's time. There's just something about the colours and the lack of hardcore shading in these games.... maybe it's a nostalgia thing. Between the Model 2 & 3 the library of games are amazing. All games are natively rendered at 4k, there's an option in the emulator to enable widescreen, which renders the viewpoint wider than the usual 4:3 area. It doesn't stretch the graphics at all, it renders the scene wider than it originally did for 4:3 screens. So what that means is you get proper rendered widescreen with 16:9 non stretched graphics! I recorded most games in this view because it looks awesome. There are a few games that have a minor background texture issues in the top corners when this is enabled. Just in case you're wondering what the black boxes in a few games are. I turned widescreen off for VF3 as it made the game look a bit broken! Here's a longer history snippet about the system, taken from Sega Retro. 🤍 The Model 3 board went through a series of delays which frustrated Sega. Following their success with the Model 2's texture-mapping chip, Real3D (a spin-off company from Lockheed Martin) were unable to finalise the specifications of the Model 3's GPU, the Real3D Pro-1000 graphics processors, until late 1995 or early 1996. By this time, Real3D had partnered with Mitsubishi, which provided the ALU and graphics memory for the Pro-1000. Sega had planned to release the Model 3 board in late 1995 along with three games, one of which, Indy 500, was reportedly downgraded to Model 2 hardware thanks to the troubles. In late 1995, Yu Suzuki promised the Model 3 would deliver "the best 3D graphics". When the Model 3 specification was finalized, it used two Real3D Pro-1000 processors, including four Mitsubishi 3D-RAM ALU chips. The Model 3 eventually debuted, with Virtua Fighter 3 as its first game, at the AOU Show 1996 in February 1996, and was followed by Scud Race later that year. The board was officially supported until 1999, to make room for the Sega NAOMI and its successors, the Sega Hikaru and NAOMI 2. The Model 3 went through a number of revisions (steps) in which improvements were made the system and board architecture was changed. These "steppings" mainly increased the clock speed of the CPU and the speed of the 3D engine, as well as minor changes to the board architecture.[2] Step 1.0 and Step 1.5 released in 1996, Step 2.0 in 1997, and Step 2.1 in 1998. Though there was much talk of Model 3 games being ported to the Sega Saturn, all home ports of Model 3 games were seen on the Sega Dreamcast, including the likes of Sega Rally 2, Virtua Fighter 3tb, Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram and Virtua Striker 2. It was the most powerful game system in its time, an order of magnitude more powerful than PC graphics cards from 1998, which were still producing Model 2 quality graphics, two years years after the Model 3's release. By 2000, the Sega Model 2 & 3 had sold over 200,000 *arcade systems worldwide, making them some of the best-selling arcade game boards of all time. #sega #arcade

Welcome back Arcadians, This weeks episode we look at a new arrival at the museum, Sega’s F1 Exhaust Note from 1991 But whats strange about this upright cabinet is Sega only ever made a sit down twin of this game. So with some further investigation we look to find out if this game has been converted from another game of that era. Also we put the pedal to the metal and see how good my driving skills are. 👾You can visit the Arcade Archive The Tickets available Now at 🤍 👾 Help support the museum. Best viewed in 60 fps. I'm player 1 and Mark is player 2. Note that I don't know a way to switch the text to English. Also, it wasn't possible for player 2 to buy things in the shop.

Follow me on Twitter 🤍 🤍 Get Great Retro Scene News 🤍 🤍 Developed and published by Sega in 1992 The third and final game in the classic super scaler series of OutRun games takes things to a new level, featuring a huge number of routes through the game, and a big selection of vehicles to choose from. It's a big improvement over Turbo OutRun, a game I'm not especially fond of, and while it's not as iconic as the 1986 original, it's a pretty darn fun game. Interestingly, you can feel the influence of OutRunners in OutRun 2: Coast to Coast, which looks and handles similarly to its 2D forebear. On a technical level, the transition from the venerable Motorola 68000 CPUs used in previous super scalar hardware to RISC-based MIPS architecture in the System 32 hardware resulted in an upswing in processing power, used to good effect by enabling a head-to-head versus mode in dual cockpit configuration. Despite these improvements, it becomes evident that the sprite scaling tech at the heart of these games had started to reach its limit; the "next big thing" would really be the move to true 3D, which Sega achieved in magnificent style in 1993/94 with Daytona USA. As a footnote, I wonder whether the introduction of System 32 hardware explains why so few of the games based on the platform received home conversions. It wasn't until the introduction of the Sega Saturn that gamers got to enjoy arcade-quality versions of OutRun and Afterburner, but I wonder if the System 32 was beyond the 2D capabilities present in the Saturn? 00:00 Kenya Course 05:07 Spain Course 10:00 The Atlantic Course 15:00 Switzerland Course 19:50 Northern Europe Course 24:46 Russia Course 29:36 China Course 34:29 Japan Course 39:14 Honk Kong Course 44:12 Australia Course #outrun #sega #retrogames
In this compilation I show you the best arcade games of SEGA NAOMI / NAOMI 2, it contains many successes of this powerful arcade board, as well as many forgotten and unknown games, which makes it a video with a very high educational value and also of game preservation. *Info*: The NAOMI (New Arcade Operation Machine Idea) is an arcade system released by Sega in 1998. It was designed as a successor to Sega Model 3 hardware, using a similar architecture to the Sega Dreamcast. The NAOMI was succeeded by the Sega Hikaru and Sega NAOMI 2 boards, though having out-lasted the NAOMI 2, Hikaru and Sega Aurora.
My homage to the Sega Dreamcast 20th Anniversary. It is a custom made tabletop arcade that i wrapped myself, inside is a modified Dreamcast console with an IDE Reborn board soldiered into it. This allows me to play backups of my games from either a Hard Disk Drive or an SD card The arcade controls are from a Dreamcast arcade stick, i attempted to use a controller circuit board but that didn't work out well. This project took me two years and a lot more money than i expected... I am extremely pleased with the finished product If anyone is interested in this project, let me know a i will attempt making a video of how i built it and the challenges i had to overcome
One of Sega's first Genesis commercials to debut in North America in '89.
